Lunch N Learn Meeting

The Rich Tapestry of Chicago's History is the culmination of our identities, backgrounds, unique experiences, thoughts, values and beliefs. Did you know that Chicago, per capita is amongst the most segregated cities, not just in the country but in the world? In this candid conversation we’ll explore how racial covenants got us there and how privilege and bias through red lining has kept us there. Chicago has the infrastructure needed to recover from the pandemic and a looming recession, but it must invest its resources wisely to care for its most vulnerable communities, mitigate massive reverse migration, attract out-of-town companies and moreover cultivate its own businesses.
There’s also an endless array of ethnic and cultural pride to embrace in our city, as Urban Historian, Shermann “Dilla” Thomas has so eloquently stated “Everything Dope about America comes from Chicago, the greatest city on earth." Dilla is dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the rich history and culture of the City of Chicago. As seen on WGN he aims to highlight Chicago’s people, architecture, neighborhoods, politics and impact on the global world. Dilla has also partnered with the City of Chicago on their “We Built Chicago” initiatives which highlights 3 core pillars:
• Reflecting On Our Past • Reclaiming Our Present • Reimaging Our Future Join us to plant seeds of self-identity by correcting elements that hinder building authentic relationships across lines of difference. Dismantling barriers allows diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging to be lived and thriving experiences.
