Question, Persuade, Refer: Using QPR Techniques to Proactively Identify Someone in Mental Health Crisis. As leaders in the ever-changing workplace, we are often tasked with engaging with the organizational workforce. It is beneficial to have training targeted for the most vulnerable employees, those in mental health crisis. Death by suicide occurs every twelve minutes in the United States. During late June, 40% of adults reported struggling with mental health issues (CDC, 2020). Mental health conditions are disproportionately affecting specific populations’ especially young adults, Hispanic persons, Black persons, essential workers, unpaid caregivers and LGBTQ persons (CDC, 2020). In this workshop, attendees will learn QPR techniques in identifying someone in crisis, nurture a peer or colleague who is in mental health crisis, and respond to behavioral and verbal cues that could lead to death by suicide. Observe techniques on how to save a life when persuading a peer or colleague to seek assistance from a trained mental health professional. Workshop attendees will: Apply QPR techniques to assist a peer, colleague, love one who is heading toward a mental health crisis, Practice role play scenarios on how to navigate thru a crucial conversation related to a mental health crisis, Articulate the signs of someone in mental health crisis
